The Dambadeniya Period (1215-1412)

Seen the destructions caused to Kelaniya by the merciless invader, Vijayabahu took steps to set things right. He repaired the image house and the dagaba with a pinnacle of gold.

His son, Parakrambahu II of literary fame, restored the ‘Pasmahal Pasada’ the five storied building, and paved the courtyard around the Chetiya. He then granted extensive coconut land for obtaining coconut oil for the daily ‘Pahan Puja’ (Lighting of the Lamps).
